Favorite Outdoor food.

The OBN has put out the prompt asking what our favorite outdoor/camping food is. Burgers, steaks, corn on the cob..... how is one man to chose?

I guess if I had to lay the chips down on one thing, fresh caught fish is tops. Steak and burgers always taste good, but when your dining on a fish that was getting it's swim on an hour ago, that's a slice of heaven.

My favorite way (because I suck at cleaning fish) is to gut it, chop of fins, tail and head and then wrap it in aluminum foil and toss it on the edge of the fire, flipping every 10 minutes until done.

Delicioso!

  1. I would agree. I love fresh fish. Nothing better. Especially when its cooked over a campfire.

  4. Agreed! Fish in tin foil, cooked on a campfire. Pretty hard to beat that. I grew up eating fish that way...now when I try fish in a restaurant, it's just never as good.

  5. Thanks guys and gals. Fish in foil is a lot better than how I learned to cook fish in the Boy Scouts. We had to cover the fish in mud and cook it until the mud dried. There was a lot of fish that wasn't eaten.

  6. Well, I thought fish for a minute and then remembered that it's been 10 or more years since I ate one. I'm going to have to remedy that.

  8. "Getting it's swim on" - I like that. I usually practice catch and release, but have no problem whatsoever with the time honored tradition of "catch and eat". The next time I'm in Colorado with my sons, I plan on bring a small cast iron skillet and having a streamside lunch. Fish and hash browns.
