Got Hooked by Allen Fly Fishing

Received some promo hooks from Allen Fly Fishing and I must say that they look pretty sharp (bad pun intended.) They're sturdy, sharp(yes I was cautious), and pretty hooky.

I placed a few next to some of my "name brand" hooks and there was no visual difference in the quality.

If you've never heard of them, Allen Fly Fishing are an up and coming fly gear manufacturer that makes, in my humble opinion, some damn good products.

They started making fly reels that are big on quality but are very reasonably price. Most of their reels go for about $100, but look a lot more pricey.

Since then, they have spread their product line to include rods, lines, hooks, and other accessories.

I have the Alpha 3/4 reel that I use on my 2wt, and I like it a lot better than the Lamson Konic that I almost bought. But I had spoke with several people before my purchase and was pleased by what I have heard, so I made the gamble and bought a reel that I had never seen before. And boy was I surprised!

  1. I have used quite a few of these hooks... You surly cant beat the price of them and they send a ton of free ones if you just want to check them out. I noticed that there are alot of irregular bends in the eyes, the twist, and the rest of the gap in general, a few with no temper to the steel. honestly though the 18's whitch is what it looks like you have there are the worst about that, the 16's and larger are probably the best over all hook deal on the web.

Digging your blog gonna hit the follow after hitting post comment..

  2. Thanks for the heads up, Bigerrfish, and I'm glad you like the blog.

I checked my hooks again and didn't see any of the issues that you mentioned, but it's certainly something to keep in mind with any more hooks I get from Allen.
