Recycled Fish Membership

I blogged a week or two ago about the Sportsman's Stewardship Pledge  from Recycled Fish and signing up for this non-for profit organization. You can also become a member with varying degrees of membership correlated to the amount of money you donate.

I opted for the $25 membership that included the membership kit as well as a free T-shirt. I received my kit in the mail yesterday and, after making sure that I wasn't the target of a bin Laden retribution move from Al Qaeda, I opened it up and gazed at my plunder.

There is a list on the Recycled Fish site of the things that you get, but it's not 100% accurate. I checked the paper that came with my kit and it appears that some of the things changed depending on what they have on hand. That's cool, I can live with that.

For starters, I came with a bunch of papers. In the packet, there was:

  • $5 certificate for Dick's Sporting Goods.
  • a sheet of coupons for Dick's SG.
  • Stewardship Quiz so you can see how God-awful you really are to the environment.
  • a couple of things on Recycled Fish and the Stewardship pledge.
  • a paper on Green Fish and included coupon.
  • a card with coupon codes for Greentackle.com, Secret Weapon Lures, Grabber Warmers, Boat US Angler, and Ventafish Tools
  • A discount coupon for paintings from Curt Redden (for those trophy fish)
  • another coupon for Green Tackle
  • a card on picking seafood from Seafood Watch
Now for the goodies!

I wore the T shirt today and I was honestly surprised at the quality of the shirt. I figured a shirt that was free would be a rough canvas like monstrosity that I would wear when I needed a beater-shirt. Not so at all!! The shirt was a very nice, soft material that was very comfortable to wear.

I also got a Dick's key chain with a compass/ thermometer.

A Dick's what I am assuming to be a poncho. I haven't opened it yet because I know I will never get it back into the little bag. I'm just going to toss it in the back of the van and start praying when I need a poncho.

A sampler of Ultra Steel by Bullet Weights, lead alternative sinkers.

One of those afore-mentioned Grabber Warmers. It's peel and stick!

A "Sharktooth Spool Management System." It's one of the bands that wraps around your tippet, but it also has a plastic piece with a little blade contraption on it to help cut the tippet.

And lastly two Hitch Trailer Keepers. These looked like bent paper clips, so I had to do a quick Google search to see what it is that they unloaded on sent me. They are little wire keeps for plastic baits, such as jigs and what have you. You put them on the head of the jig, slide the body up and then stick the legs of the keeper into the plastic. This is to keep the plastic body on the jig so that it a)saves you money and b) doesn't litter the waterways. Kind of ingenious if you ask me.

If you haven't signed up, I urge you too. You get a nice T Shirt, some cool goodies and, with all the discounts and such, the potential to save what you spent in membership. Want to see what your money goes to? You can see some of the Programs here

  5. Hi Teeg. Glad you enjoyed the post. I just wanted to give a shout out to a good cause. Don't worry about the flies or the sticker, I appreciate it but it's not necessary.
