Fly of the Week: the Lite Brite Buzzer

It seems that every time I'm on Youtube looking for a fly video for here, the one I find is made by Davie McPhail. Either this guy makes some cool looking bugs or it's a damn conspiracy.

Anyway, here is (yet another....) fly by Davie, the Lite Brite Buzzer. This fly is real simple to tie but yet the end product looks like it wouldn't be.

Fly of the Week: Bird of Prey Caddis

Today I picked up the book Fly Fishing Guide to Upper Delaware River by Paul Weamer. The majority of this river is fairly close to my house (between an hour to Philly at it's mouth to about 3 hours to the border with NY.) I have never fished it but have always wanted to. And since a three hour drive is a little far for a scouting trip, I figured this book would be the next best thing.

Fly of the Week: Brownie Shellback

Many people think that the best working flys and dark and drab. It's (theoretically) harder for the fish to make out details of the pattern, since it is dark it works well in murky water, but since it is a little featureless it works well in clear water too.

Conversely, some think that the best patterns are bright, eye catching attractor patterns. Go figure.

Fly of the Week: Big Daddy Crayfish

I think that it's pretty much a scientific fact that fish love crayfish. Be it bass to carp to catfish to big ol' trout, fish slurp up crayfish with something close to reckless abandon. It only makes sense to have a crawdad in your arsenal.

Fly of the Week: Black Bertha

This is a nymph pattern that I created this Spring and quickly became one of my "go-to" patterns to get results. It  doesn't matter the water clarity, the weather, the temperature.... I have had success with this fly in any and all conditions.

Fly of the Week: Bead-head Rainbow Prince

In continuing with my "purple is better" theology, here is a twist on a traditional Prince pattern. This is another attractor pattern. Tell me if you can guess why! Ha ha....

At first glance it looks similar to last weeks pattern, but that is only when looking at these pics(I really need to get a proper fly pic set-up.) The Lite Brite dubbing gives this fly a distinct sparkle, and the rubber "wings" and hackle give it a very different action in the water.

Use it, abuse it, I just hope you don't lose it. Cheers!
